- Abstract
The article presents information on malignant pleural effusion that causes dyspnea in patients who have short life expectancy which can be treated through pleurodesis and testing the effectiveness of indwelling pleural catheters (IPCs) over chest tube and talc slurry pleurodesis. The clinical trials were based on unblinded randomized controlled trial and the results showed that there was no difference between the two techniques in relieving dyspnea. The trials were carried out on adults and the exceptions include lobectomy, chylothorax and less white blood cell count.
