- Abstract
Ali Şeriati is one of the philosophers who dominated the intellectual panorama of Iran in 1970s. Although he is defined as a sociologist of religion, his approach to religion is basically, in Contemporary Sociology, close to the language of French-German social philosophies. Şeriatı who was a student in France in 1960s, was influenced by the thoughts of Raymond Aron, Jacques Bergue, Henry Corbin, Frantz Fanon, Roger Garaudy, Georges Gurvitch and Jean-Paul Sartre. Besides, he adapted the historical approach to his thoughts as a method, by his references to particularly Hegel and Marks and Jaspers and Heidegger especially on religion-state relationships. This shows the influence of German philosophers on him.
