- Title
Fuel cells: Log on for new catalysts.
- Authors

- Abstract
The article focuses on the discovery of active and stable catalysts for the fuel-cell cathode, where there is electrocatalytic reduction of oxygen to water through the oxygen-reduction reaction (ORR), in order to make improvements in the fundamental problems of cost per output and fuel-cell lifetime. It notes a model study that performed a theoretical calculation with the use of density functional theory (DFT0 to screen both the activity and stability of transition metal alloys of platinum (Pt) and palladium (Pt) with different compositions. The need to stabilize core-shell structures under harsh fuel-cell operating conditions in order to make them viable for fuel-cell applications is mentioned.
