Nature and Human Nature interdisciplinary Convergences on Cather's Blue Mesa.
- Authors
Love, Glen A.
- Abstract
The article offers a look at the role of place and human nature in the characters of writers such as Willa Cather, George Eliot, and Eudora Welty. The author suggests that archetypes are crucial to the meaning of several pieces of literature by Cather in particular, including "Tom Outland's Story," and "The Professor's House." The author also discusses evolutionary history as seen in literature. Cather found the story of the far mesa archetypal and included it in several of her books, including "The Song of the Lark."
