- Abstract
The discovery of lead waste buried around the Saturnia Sistemas de Energia S/A, has led to the suspicion of contamination in a recreation park adjacent to this company. The lead concentration in the chemical analysis performed in a single soil sample, although below the intervention value of CETESB, caused the park access to be restricted. This action had a preventive character, but a point analysis of soil may not be representative, identifying the need to apply a statistically defensible methodology that indicates the distribution of contaminants in the area. One of these methodologies is multi-increment sampling, which is characterized by the collection of multiple soil aliquots within an area called the decision unit, in order to form a single sample for laboratory analysis. Thus, this study applied multi-increment sampling in the area of the recreation park, in order to verify if lead concentration represents risks to human health. The results, which were validated by calculating the relative standard deviation and the upper confidence limit (UCL 95%), did not indicate health risks to the population attending the park.
