Hemi maxillectomy defects require closure of large palatal defects with the aid of an obturator prosthesis. With sizeable defects, to ensure adequate patient comfort, the bulb of the obturator is made hollow which makes the prosthesis light weight. This article describes various techniques that have been applied for the hollowing of the bulb of the obturator prosthesis.
