- Abstract
Cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) reduces morbidity and mortality in patients with heart failure (HF) with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF) and electrical dyssynchrony but outcome effects of CRT in pacing-induced HF have not been studied in a large randomized controlled trial (RCT). Although HFH was not a pre-specified secondary endpoint it constituted 4.6% in the CRT group and 20.7% in the ICD group, and the LVESV part 22.2% in the CRT group compared with 47.2% in the ICD group. With this challenge in mind and recognizing the fact that lead-extractions were somewhat higher in the CRT- than in the ICD group (15.1% vs. 11.3%), procedure- or device-related complications were indeed higher in the CRT group (12.3% vs. 7.8%).
