The article focuses on recurrent abdominal pain (RAP) in children. John Apley, a British pediatrician, first defined the term "recurrent abdominal pain" in the 1950s. Three developments that enable us to approach RAP more methodically and assuredly are discussed. Useful medications are cited. The typical presentation for a child with a functional RAP disorder is described.
