- Abstract
The article discusses asymptotic dispersion rates in cylindrical packed beds. It has been suggested that longitudinal dispersion is promoted by radial heterogeneities in porosity and velocity fields. This hypothesis was tested and found to be accurate. The tested assumption was that asymptotic hydrodynamic dispersion coefficients in beadpacks would be related to the cylinder radius and bead diameter. Longitudinal dispersion data is presented which confirms the original predictions that when dispersion is fully developed, it is directly related to the ratio of radius to diameter.
