- Abstract
For <italic>G</italic> a group definable in a saturated model of a <italic>NIP</italic> theory <italic>T</italic>, we prove that there is a smallest type-definable subgroup <italic>H</italic> of <italic>G</italic> such that the quotient <italic>G</italic> / <italic>H</italic> is stable. This generalizes the existence of <italic>G</italic>00, the smallest type-definable subgroup of <italic>G</italic> of bounded index.
