- Abstract
The research presented herein aimed to investigate the behavior of glass plate used for bridge deck by means of experiment and finite element analysis. This paper focus on bearing capacity and failure mode of monolithic and laminated glass plates with one-way supported conditions under quasi-static local uniform pressure. The results found that the load-displacement relationship of the two kinds of glasses in the loading stage were nearly linear and both of them had obviously brittle failure characteristics. It was found that the PVB interlayer had a significant effect on bearing capacity and failure mode of laminated glass. When reached the bearing capacity limit, the monolithic glass instantly split into pieces and the debris flew around with very high speed while the laminated glasses had only one piece of glasses cracked firstly and the whole laminated glass still had certain bearing capacity. The results show that the monolithic glass cannot be used as the bridge deck, however, the reasonable designed laminated glass has high bearing capacity and does not hurt people when cracked. So the laminated glass can be considered as the safety glass for the vehicle bridge deck.
