- Abstract
The article reports on the award presented to Travis Engen, former chief executive officer of Alcan Inc., and the plan of Group IV Semiconductor Inc. to use silicon in solid state bulbs to replace existing illuminants in Canada. The Sustainability Leadership Award was won by Engen because of his personal commitment to sustainable business practices, likewise, Alcan announced the 10 finalists for the one million U.S. dollar Alcan Prize for Sustainability. Meanwhile, Group IV Semiconductor Inc. plan to produce even more energy-efficient bulb would lower greenhouse gas emissions by reducing energy lost to heat production. The company hoped to mass produce the bulbs within five years.
