- Authors
Vardanyan, Vladimir D.
- Abstract
The article presents a legal analysis of Armenian peace treaties that were made in the 19th and 20th century. Consideration is given to the 1856 Treaty of Paris, especially what it meant for the Armenian people, and the 1878 Treaty of Berlin and the way in which it sought to protect Armenians from the Ottoman Empire. The Treaty of Batum, which was signed in June 1918, contained within it the official recognition of the existence of the Republic of Armenia by the Ottoman Empire and also mentioned the border between Armenia and Azerbaijan. Other treaties that are analyzed include the 1920 Treaty of Sèvres, the 1920 Treaty of Alexandropol, and the Treaty of Friendship between Turkey, the Soviet Socialist Republic of Armenia, the Soviet Socialist Republic of Azerbaijan, and the Soviet Socialist Republic of Georgia.
