- Abstract
Older people are a significant component of the population. Thus, the study of aging population is a current necessity, and especially their quality of life. The main purpose of this work was to understand the perception that old people have of their quality of life. It was a multidisciplinary, qualitative, exploratory- descriptive study. It took place in the Health Centre of the Central Region of Portugal, working with a sample obtained through the process of saturation of data, with 24 men and 24 women with an average age of 74,79 years. To obtain the data we used a semistructured interview. To the older people studied, quality of life meant having health, harmony, being happy, being satisfied with life, and keeping busy, whether with hobbies or employment or volunteer work. It also meant having interpersonal relations and receiving support from family, friends and neighbors. The results of this research show the need for coordination among health services, social services, councils and education, and the Health Centre is seen as the best place to dynamize and coordinate suitable interventions for older people.
