Case report of severe bradycardia due to transdermal fentanyl.
- Authors
Hawley, Pippa
- Abstract
The article discusses fentanyl induced bradycardia. It mentions a case in which a patient with recurrent ovarian cancer was administered a switch from hydromorphone to transdermal fentanyl, resulted in symptomatic severe bradycardia. Later, the fentanyl patch was removed. The patient made uneventful recovery. The delayed absorption of fentanyl via the transdermal route makes early identification of fentanyl induced bradycardia, which was key to prompt reversal.
