- Abstract
The article discusses the possibility that Roman statesman and writer Senator Cassiodorus, the former secretary of ancient Ostrogothic king Theodoric, consulted astronomer and mathematician Ptolemy's work "Preceptum canonis Ptolemei" when he wrote the book "Institutiones." Topics discussed include components of astronomy according to Cassiodorus, translation of "Preceptum canonis Ptolemei" from Greek, and knowledge of Cassiodorus about Greek astronomy and astrology.
