- Abstract
The article discusses the role of the imagination in moral development in the writings of early-20th century author and educator Ella Lyman Cabot. The article describes Cabot's ethics and social-political philosophy in the book "Everyday Ethics," the relation of Cabot's thought to classical American philosophy, and the role of sympathy, moral patience, and etiquette in constructing an aesthetic of ethics. Other subjects under discussion include the relation of Cabot's thought to philosopher John Dewey, the psychologist William James, and philosopher Josiah Royce.
