- Abstract
The article describes the glass vase titled "Les Hommes noirs" made in 1900 by French glass maker Emile Gallé with design input from Romantic painter Victor Prouvé which was acquired by the Corning Museum of Glass in 2011. Topics include description of the form and appearance of the vase, the engraved literary quotation on the rim signifying the piece as a vase parlant, and the vase's thematic references to the Dreyfus Affair of 1894-1906. Several photographs of the vase as well as of another by Gallé are presented.
