The article presents information about the private library collection of Austrian Emperor Franz I. Descriptions are given of his education, academic research interests, and decision to start a personal library as well as a collection of copper engravings. Further discussion focuses on the design and construction of the ruler's library, its staffing, and the presentation of its materials in various types of displays.
