- Abstract
The article focuses on the dispute resolution system available to Burmese refugees living in camps on the Thai-Burma border. It informs that Thai officials overseeing the refugee camps assign a major part of their responsibility to refugee leaders for dealing with minor crime and civil disputes. The refugee leader themselves admit that they lack the capability to administrate justice efficiently in the camps. It is noted that residents of the camp are also confused about the distinction between the camp jurisdiction and the Thai judicial system. Thai authorities have implied that the camp justice systems will deal with minor crime and civil disputes, while the national justice system deals with serious crimes.
