- Abstract
The article considers contemporary attitudes related to Pope Leo IX (1049-1054), focusing particularly on views of his attitudes towards reformation of the Catholic Church. Topics include a consideration of the definition of church reform in a Medieval setting, and historical studies of what his 5-year pontificate actually managed to accomplish. An historiographic overview of works by historians including Gerhart Ladner, Maureen Miller, Leidulf Melve, is presented.
