- Abstract
OBJECTIVE: To know if the proteins that form the total protein extract (PET) of C. albicans are pyrogenic or can be used in patients safely and confidently. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Prospective study carried out from February to November 2022, in which Candida albicans cultures were used, which were subjected to sonication for the subsequent precipitation of proteins by the salting out method and their separation and purification by SDS-PAGE and electroelution, to obtain the separated proteins and subsequently submit them to the pyrogen test (LAL) both to the individual proteins and as a whole in the total protein extract. RESULTS: The LAL test for each of the peptides tested (85, 75, 65, 47, 40, 35 and 28 kDa) was negative and since there was no positive response to a sensitivity of 0.06 UE/mL, the endotoxin concentration is 0.085 UE/mL and the maximum is 5 UE/mL, so they are not considered endotoxic for the total extract (candidine). CONCLUSIONS: The total extract of Candida albicans (candidine) has a minimal activity of endotoxin, so it can be administered parenterally.
