- Abstract
This study analyzed the impact of public policies on rural education, with the aim of identifying the challenges faced and possible strategies to overcome them. The methodology used was a literature review, examining relevant academic articles, books and dissertations on the subject. The results indicated that, despite government efforts, there is a significant discrepancy between the intentions of the policies and their practical application. The lack of adequate infrastructure and financial resources were identified as major obstacles. In addition, insufficient training of teachers to deal with the specificities of rural education compromised the effectiveness of pedagogical and assessment practices. Social movements played a fundamental role in promoting contextualized education and in articulating demands with the government. However, the sustainability of these initiatives still proved to be a challenge due to the dependence on external resources. Assessment practices in rural education need to be adapted to local realities and include diversified methods that value traditional knowledge and students' cultural practices. The final considerations highlighted the importance of contextualized public policies, pedagogical practices, and assessments to improve rural education. Collaboration between government, social movements, and the community was highlighted as essential to overcome challenges and promote education that respects and values the specificities of rural populations. This study suggests the need for future research to complement the findings and explore the sustainability of social movement initiatives and the effectiveness of continuing education programs for rural teachers.
