- Authors
Eccles, Mark
- Abstract
The article focuses on the play "The Roaring Girl," by Thomas Middleton and Thomas Dekker. The author notes that the actor of the play "The Roaring Girl" or "Moll Cutpurse" says in the epilogue that if the audience is not fully satisfied with the play "The Roaring Girl" her self some few days hence, shall on the Stage, give larger recompense. The author argues that the character may have spoken and sung in a jig or afterpiece, and the woodcut on the title-page may show her as she appeared on the stage, but she is not likely to have smoked a pipe while she played and sang in the play.
