- Abstract
This letter published in the Archives of Dermatological Research discusses a study that analyzed data from the All of Us database to investigate the comorbidities associated with Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC), a rare and aggressive skin cancer. The study found that MCC patients had higher odds of developing certain comorbidities such as atopic dermatitis, heart failure, HIV, hypothyroidism, insomnia, obesity, and psoriasis. However, autoimmune conditions like type 1 diabetes, systemic lupus erythematosus, rheumatoid arthritis, and alopecia areata were not significantly associated with MCC. The study has limitations and further research is needed to understand the connections between MCC and these comorbidities.
