- Abstract
The article discusses verse epistles and related forms of personal address written during the reigns of King William III and Queen Anne in 17th century England. Views on the verse epistles of the poet Matthew Prior including "To Mr. Fleetwood Shepherd" and "Epistle to Fleetwood Shephard, Esq" are offered, and the epistle "Epistle to the Right Honorable Charles, Lord Halifax" by William Congreve is examined.
