- Abstract
The article presents the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD) organization's guidelines related to the use of antibiotic therapy for pediatric dental patients. The development of drug-resistant bacteria from widespread use of antibiotic regiments is noted. Several special conditions that might require use of antibiotics are described including pulpitis, facial swelling secondary to a dental infection, and pediatric periodontal disease. Oral wound management and evaluation is also considered.
