- Abstract
The treatment of the urinary tract infections with cefotaxime has been evaluated. Thirty patients were included in the trial, 13 of them had renal or ureteric obstruction and 4 had prostatic symptoms. Fifty-nine organisms were cultured during this study and none was resistant to CTAX. With a dosage of 2 g daily for 5 days 96.6 % of the patients were cured of their symptoms and their urine sterilized. Six weeks after the end of treatment 41.4% of the patients had recurrence of infection. Fifty-three per cent of 86 Ps. aeruginosa gentamicin-resistant urine isolates were sensitive to 32 μg/ml or less of CTAX. MBC were two or three times higher than MIC for these strains.
