- Abstract
A listeriose é raramente relatada em equinos, sendo relacionada a aborto, nascimento de potros fracos, ceratite e, ocasionalmente, infecção do sistema nervoso central. Foi atendida no hospital veterinário uma égua Brasileiro de Hipismo, 5 anos, 560 kg, alimentada com ração farelada e feno pré-secado. Ao exame clínico, apresentava sinais de incoordenação motora em membros pélvicos, dificuldade de apreensão e deglutição do alimento, além de leucocitose em hemograma. Foi realizada a coleta do líquor e encaminhamento para pesquisa por PCR dos seguintes agentes: Sarcocystidae (sarcocystis, neospora e toxoplasma), Trypanosomatidae (trypanosoma e leishmania), encefalomielites leste, oeste e venezuelana, Babesia, Theileria e Listeria spp. Instituiuse tratamento com dexametasona (0,1 mg/kg, SID, IV), flunixim meglumine (1,1 mg/kg, BID, IV), dimetilsulfoxido (0,5mg/kg, SID, IV) e penicilina benzatina (25.000 UI/kg, a cada 48h, IM). Dentro de uma semana, verificouse progressão dos sinais neurológicos, com quedas repetidas e piora na capacidade de se alimentar, optandose pela eutanásia. O resultado da análise da amostra por PCR foi positivo para a Listeria spp. e foram obtidos resultados não detectáveis para as demais espécies listadas e citadas acima. Com base nesse resultado, foi encaminhado para sequenciamento o amplicon positivo para a listeria e os resultados estão sendo aguardados. Afecções neurológicas em ruminantes estão associadas à ingestão de silagem contaminada por Listeria monocytogenes e, em menor frequência, L. ivanovii ou L. innocua. Os alimentos fermentados, incluindo a silagem e os fenos pré-secados, como o utilizado na alimentação da égua do presente estudo, favorecem a proliferação da Listeria quando produzidos de maneira inadequada e podem ocasionar afecções no sistema nervoso central. Nos ruminantes, o tratamento com penicilina ou oxitetraciclina é indicado para o tratamento da listeriose encefálica, principalmente quando instituído precocemente. Suspeitou-se que o fornecimento de feno pré-secado contaminado possa ter sido o responsável pela sintomatologia neurológica observada neste animal.
