- Abstract
Efeitos benéficos da leucoaférese e do Lithothamnion spp. sobre a síndrome da resposta inflamatória sistêmica (SIRS) induzida por oligofrutose já foram demonstrados por nosso grupo de pesquisa. O objetivo deste trabalho é comparar a eficácia da leucoaférese terapêutica e da suplementação oral com Lithothamnion muelleri considerando os escores de SIRS de equinos com disbiose induzida por sobrecarga gastrointestinal de carboidratos. Foram utilizados 18 equinos saudáveis, divididos em grupo controle (CON), leucoaférese (LEUCO) e lithothamnion (LITHO). A disbiose foi induzida por sobrecarga de oligofrutose (10 g/kg, PO). Equinos CON não receberam nenhuma terapia. Nos cavalos LEUCO, o protocolo de leucoaférese (PL) foi iniciado 12 horas após a administração de oligofrutose. O PL consistiu na separação dos leucócitos por aférese em fluxo contínuo por 4 horas e posterior hidratação enteral. Os animais LITHO receberam extrato mineral de L. muelleri (100 mg/kg PO BID), durante sete dias antes e nas 36 horas após a indução. Os equinos foram avaliados clinicamente antes, 6, 12, 18 e 24 horas após a indução, por um único avaliador. Os parâmetros avaliados foram frequências cardíaca e respiratória, temperatura retal e contagem de leucócitos. A SIRS foi caracterizada quando dois ou mais desses parâmetros estavam alterados. Os dados foram comparados pelo teste Kruskal-Wallis (p < 0,05). No CON, a SIRS foi identificada após 18 horas da indução (p < 0,0171). No LITHO, apenas 24 horas após a sobrecarga de oligofrutose (p = 0,0015) e foi significativamente mais branda que a do CON (p = 0,0043) e LEUCO (p = 0,0429) 18 horas pós-indução. No LEUCO, por outro lado, apesar de verificada a presença de SIRS 18 horas pós-sobrecarga de carboidratos (p = 0,0082), esta foi significativamente menor que a do CON 24 horas após a indução (p = 0,0157). Os achados demonstram significativa diferença no efeito das terapias avaliadas. Enquanto a ingestão prévia de L. muelleri foi capaz de retardar o início da SIRS, o PL amenizou e reduziu os sinais de SIRS associada à disbiose em equinos. Em conclusão, é possível distinguir a aplicabilidade das terapias e, portanto, orientar o fornecimento de L. muelleri de forma preventiva para equinos sujeitos à ocorrência de disbiose e recomendar a utilização do protocolo de leucoaférese durante o quadro inflamatório sistêmico, prevenindo suas complicações, como a disfunção de órgãos, em equinos tratados.
