- Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the effect of myopia severity on macular vessel density, foveal avascular zone width and foveal avascular zone foveal vessel density by optical coherence tomography angiography. Material and Method: A total of 150 myopic eyes, including 50 eyes with mild myopia (group 1), 50 eyes with moderate myopia (group 2), and 50 eyes with high myopia (group 3), were included in the study. Macular superficial capillary plexus and deep capillary plexus vessel density, foveal avascular zone width, foveal avascular zone foveal vessel density measurements with optical coherence tomography angiography and axial length measurements with optical biometry were performed. Results: While the vascular density and foveal avascular zone foveal vessel density of the superficial capillary plexus and deep capillary plexus were significantly lower in group 3 (p<0.05), there was no significant difference in the width of the foveal avascular zone between the groups (p>0.05). In addition, there was a negative correlation between axial length and superficial capillary plexus vessel density and foveal avascular zone foveal vessel density, but no correlation was found between axial length and deep capillary plexus vessel density and foveal avascular zone width (p>0.05). Conclusions: With the increase in myopia severity, superficial capillary plexus and deep capillary plexus vascular density and foveal avascular zone foveal vessel density decrease, but foveal avascular zone width is not affected. More large-scale studies are needed to better understand the complications associated with myopia.
