- Abstract
This document provides an introduction to biomimetic scaffolds for hard tissue surgery, specifically focusing on bones and teeth. It explains that three-dimensional biomaterial scaffolds are being used to repair damaged hard tissues by providing mechanical stability and a porous network for cell growth and tissue regeneration. The document also introduces a special issue that discusses the latest advances in this field, including design strategies, fabrication techniques, biomaterials, and clinical applications. The special issue includes contributions from scholars in the field, with articles covering bone and joint surgery, maxillofacial and oral surgery, and general surgery. The document provides an overview of the published papers in the special issue, highlighting review articles on biomimetic silk-based materials and scaffolds, as well as the evolution of designs in arthroplasty endoprostheses. It also summarizes research articles on personalized biomimetic scaffolds, drug-releasing scaffolds, composite materials, ceramic biocomposites, and highly porous scaffolds. Overall, the contributions demonstrate advancements in the field and the potential for biomimetic scaffolds to assist in tissue regeneration.
