- Abstract
The essay is presented which profiles the Northern Paiute translator, author, teacher, and activist Sarah Winnemucca, with particular focus given to her use of translation and education as a means of resistance against efforts to colonize and erase native culture. Her work towards maintaining a political and cultural space for Northern Paiute culture and identity is examined, and the nationalist and transnational aspects of her activism are also explored.
