- Abstract
This research deals with the Japanese-American relations during the period (1945-1960) and discusses its various transformations. The intensification of the Japanese danger in East Asia, its occupation of many Chinese regions, its aspiration at the beginning of World War II towards the Pacific Ocean, and its attack on the American fleet at Pearl Harbor, were actions that forced USA to respond by declaring war on Japan. and invading its lands in 1945 The study examines two different features of the American occupation of Japan. Although Japan lived in poor conditions under this occupation, this stage was not completely devoid of benefits for the Japanese people. The United States has undertaken many economic and educational reforms, and had allowed Japanese parties to reform Japan's internal system, all without jeopardizing the Japanese emperor. All this indicates that the period of the American occupation of Japan was not as bleak as it appears in some historical works, and that this stage was not without some gains for the Japanese people. The research traces many other variables that occurred in US-Japanese relations, the basis of which was the shift of the US policy towards Japan from occupation to alliance. It discusses the main reasons that led to this transformation. Most notably, the emergence of the Soviet Union as a rival power in the East Asian region, which made the United States prefer Japan as its strategic ally in the region to confront this power. The research also discusses the global reactions towards the San Francisco Treaty of 1951, which ended the American occupation of Japan, and sheds light on the nature of Japanese foreign relations with neighboring countries such as the Soviet Union and China.
