- Title
Variable Refrigerant Flow Systems.
- Authors
Goetzler, William
- Abstract
The article discusses variable refrigerant flow (VRF) systems used to cool commercial buildings. The author notes that though the systems were introduced in Japan in the 1980s and reached European markets by 1987, the technology is virtually unknown in the United States. In Japan VRF systems are used in roughly half of medium sized commercial buildings and in one-third of large commercial buildings. According to the author, VRF systems conserve energy by eliminating energy loss associated with ducts, and cater to buildings requiring simultaneous heating and cooling.
