- Abstract
The article discusses the complex concept of popular sovereignty in relation to alternative education to find out its application and limitations with regard to maintaining the spirit of democracy. It explores the idea of philosopher John Locke regarding popular sovereignty becoming the template of the democratic community. It examines other arguments regarding popular sovereignty as a basis for democracy such as those by Jean-Jacques Rousseau and Horace Mann.
