- Abstract
Judas Iscariot is always portrayed as a heinous and greedy villain in the Christian tradition. However, such customary interpretation only reveals the habitual image of Judas. This article is to compare and analyze the Judas accounts between the Gospel of Mark and Matthew, in order to sketch the distinction of the image of Judas in Matthew. It concludes that Judas has transformed from a stereotype in Mark to a multi-dimensional figure in Matthew through redaction. Judas had not only experienced the alienation of identity from disciple circle, but also had under gone severe struggling in his mind. He was a failed and greedy disciple of Jesus, and also a sinner with strong remorse to undo the guilt.
