- Title
Popular Diets Prescribed by Alternative Practitioners--Part 2.
- Authors
Mullin, Gerard E.
- Abstract
The article describes several therapeutic diets prescribed by alternative practitioners. Adherence to a gluten-free diet, which involves eliminating all foods containing wheat and, in some instances, oats, can affect the quality of life of an individual. The macrobiotic diet involves eating a lot of whole grains and vegetables, but certain foods, such as fruits and cheeses, are restricted. Eating raw foods is said to preserve vital enzymes that facilitate the digestion and absorption of nutrients, though the proven benefits of the raw food diet are unclear.
