- Abstract
An essay is presented that discusses the welfare economics of economist Arthur Cecil Pigou in the context of early 20th century politics, noting his books "Wealth and Welfare" and "The Economics of Welfare." Topics include the role of the working class in early 20th century British politics, his debates with economist H. S. Foxwell, and his opinions on the Great Tariff Controversy of 1903 to 1906. His response to the socialist group Cambridge University Fabian Society is addressed.
