- Abstract
F. Lamond Tullis's book, "Grass Roots in Mexico: Stories of Pioneering Latter-day Saints," provides a unique and authentic perspective on the lives of native Mexican Latter-day Saint pioneers. Tullis breaks from the traditional narrative of Anglo-American settlers and delves into the experiences of native Mexicans through personal travels, archival research, and missionary responsibilities. The book includes a synopsis of the history of Latter-day Saints in Mexico, followed by vignettes that highlight the diverse backgrounds and experiences of early Mexican pioneers. Tullis also provides cultural and historical context, addressing topics such as Mexican history, politics, and culture. While the book has limitations in terms of geographic scope and representation of women's contributions, it is a valuable contribution to the history of the church in Mexico.
