- Abstract
Magnetotactic bacteria (MTB) may have been the earliest organisms to sense Earth's magnetic field and to form intracellular nanocrystals of magnetic minerals, so-called magnetotaxis and magnetosomes, respectively [[2]]. Considering the phylogenetic diversity of uncultured MTB and their diverse magnetic crystal morphologies and chain assemblies, a general model for gene networks that control or regulate magnetic particle biogenesis and chain assembly needs to be established on the basis of all available cultured and uncultured data.
