- Abstract
Calciphylaxis is a rare condition characterized by painful ulcers and tissue ischemia. Risk factors for its development include obesity, diabetes, and hyperphosphatemia. Intravenous sodium thiosulfate (IVST) is the current first-line treatment for calciphylaxis, but it can have adverse effects. Intralesional sodium thiosulfate (ILST) has shown promise as an alternative treatment, with studies demonstrating similar outcomes to IVST. ILST is a low-risk method that can penetrate the skin effectively. However, more controlled trials are needed to establish the optimal treatment protocol.
