- Abstract
The article presents a study which examines the rapid recovery of the ecosystem from diffuse pollution following the Great Irish Famine of 1845-1850. The study shows the reduction of the trophic level of Lough Carra during and immediately after the famine. Its results suggests that the reduction of human pressure from landscape scale diffuse sources may lead to aquatic ecosystem's monotonic and rapid recovery.
