ESCAPED SALMON IN THE INNER SEAS, SOUTHERN CHILE: FACING ECOLOGICAL AND SOCIAL CONFLICTS.

- Abstract
The article discusses the experimental fishing in the salmon farming regions of southern Chile to determine abundance and distribution of such exotic salmon populations, and their effect on native organisms. It notes the most commonly farmed salmon species including rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss), coho salmon (Oncorhynchus kisutch), and Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar). Results showed artisanal fishing may control escaped salmon, and they could compete with native southern hake and mackerel.
