Countdown to wipe out guinea-worm in Ghana.
- Authors
Afele, Mawusi
- Abstract
The article discusses the eradication of guinea-worm disease, or dracunculiasis, in Ghana. It notes that guinea-worm transmission can be prevented by drinking-water filtration and by preventing people with open sores from contaminating water supplies. It adds that the behavior of migrant farmers is a key aspect of preventing the disease. It notes the work of the Carter Center founded by former U.S. President Jimmy Carter. Statistics on the decline of guinea-worm cases between 2007 and 2008 also are noted.
