- Abstract
The article discusses the Lobelia genus, with many of its varieties are used for medicinal purposes in Asia, and the North American species Lobelia inflata and siphylitica mentioned in traditional folkloric herbal literature. Lobelia is used by North American Native people for the treatment of wheezing and respiratory problems in inhalant powders and smoking blends, while early American pioneer medicine included it in teas and tinctures for respiratory constriction, spastic coughs, and asthma.
