- Abstract
The birth of Athena is examined in various iconographic representations, particularly the role of Hermes. The presence of Hermes in the depictions suggests that he plays an essential role in the story and that the images have a different logic than the narratives. The study examines the iconographic representation of the birth of Athena on ancient vases and notes that Hermes is a frequent figure in these scenes. The presence of certain gods in the depictions of Athena's birth can be interpreted as part of the integration of Zeus' children into the Olympic family. Hermes plays a role in the scenes of Athena's birth by performing gestures and acting as a messenger and herald. The inscription "I am Hermes Kyllenios" illustrates Hermes' function as a mediator between Hephaestus and Zeus.
