Looks at reaction by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) committee in response to concerns about bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE), or mad cow disease. Worries about gelatin, which is made from the bones and hides of cows and pigs; Advice to the FDA from a committee that the agency reimpose a restriction on the use of gelatin manufactured from parts of cows imported from countries that have reported cases of BSE.
