- Title
Port of Spain: The Construction of a Caribbean City, 1888–1962.
- Authors
Taitt, G.
- Abstract
Stuempfle provides sketches of the local, British, American and Indian architects, town planners, engineers and builders responsible for design and construction. Few books having been written on urban history in the Caribbean, Stuempfle's I Port of Spain i deserves its place on scholars' bookshelves, and not simply by default. The study has a geographical bias caused, he says, by the dearth of information on the low-income eastern localities; for example, there are few photos of the poorer sections of Port of Spain.
