- Title
Social networks and the foundations of oligarchy in medieval towns.
- Authors
Shaw, David Gary
- Abstract
The article focuses on social networks and the foundations of urban oligarchy across medieval England. Earlier historians have stated that oligarchy was established partly on wealth, mentality, and ideology. However a different aspect stems out from close-quartered social relations and social networks. It has been found that interaction among small groups was important to sustaining oligarchy in the later Middle Ages in England. Oligarchy is found to flourish by way of mentioning the elite citizens into the business of the middle and lower level of the political community.
